FEBRURY 2021: PROJECT DIAMOND

We are pleased to announce the launch of our 2nd anthology project, Diamond!

As part of her advocacy for the welfare of immigrants, Samantha Rumbidzai Vazhure is compiling and editing an anthology of short stories by upcoming Zimbabwean writers. The themes of this anthology talk to the resilience and hope of the Zimbabwean dispersion.

What's in a name?

A diamond is a gemstone known for its resilience under pressure, and its brilliance is based on its ability to reflect light. When light enters the stone, it is refracted by the diamond's internal angles, causing the sparkle diamonds are known for. This sparkle represents hope. When two or more diamonds are placed together, a superposition called entanglement, they vibrate at a low frequency only detectable by laser. Spiritually, a diamond represents clarity, promise and possibility. These characteristics of a diamond have been used as puns to name the anthology, BRILLIANCE OF HOPE: Reflections, Refractions and Vibrations of the Zimbabwean dispersion.

BRILLIANCE OF HOPE will be published by Carnelian Heart Publishing Ltd, as part of our Advocacy-based publishing service. Release date - 6 September 2021!

The name “Turquoise” is inspired by chromotherapy, a centuries old belief in the healing properties of colours; i.e. vibrations in colours are understood to improve mood and overall health. The colour turquoise is associated with feminine energy, as well as sophisticated calming wisdom, creativity, emotional balance and intuition. Turquoise is believed to induce internal serenity, flush negative emotions from the mind and to support detoxification of the body.

Turquoise is a befitting name for this women empowerment project, where authentic women's voices from Zimbabwe will touch our souls and heal us with their creativity in story-telling. To find out how this project has impacted individual writers, please read their interviews here
